What would it look like to fall into a black hole?

Published by hallmarkm at 4:45 pm under Science Edit This

Falling into a black hole is not something you might do in the near future, nor is it something that you might want to do. However, for those of you who wonder what it would look like to fall into one I will try to shed some light on the subject. As you approach the edge of the blackhole, called the Event Horizon, it would appear that the light around it would be bending and the center of the hole would be pitch black due to the fact that no light could escape. As you pass into the Event Horizon given you weren’t torn apart you would feel an increase in gravitational pull that would grow exponentially as you move further in. If you were to turn around and look out of the black hole, you would be able to see everything outside but anyone outside would not be able to see you. You would be able to see a point where all light is swallowed up and from your point of view you would never reach the Event Horizon, even though you are already through. As you get closer to the center, also called the singularity, the tidal force would be extreme in the lower part of your body than at your head (given you fell in feet first). As you look around in your last moments light would be seem to be redshifted and that would be the last thing you saw. After entering the singularity no one knows what would happen. Scientists say that it seems like the entire 3D universe is being crushed onto a 2D surface. See http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20126911.300-our-world-may-be-a-giant-hologram.html
