Samsung unveils 7mm thick flat-panel TV
Samsung has announced it is to unveil a 7mm (1/4 inch) flat-panel TV screen at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas on Thursday January 8th, 2009.
An LED backlight sits behind the LCD panel and creates the light needed to allow the image to be visible. Most LCDs use thicker fluorescent lights but LED lights are become more and more popular with TV manufacturers for the fact that they are smaller, brighter, and last longer, using up 90% less electricity than traditional lightbulbs.
This accomplishment beats out Philips for the thinnest LCD TV screen ever developed having the previous record at 8mm.
Thinner TV screens will be on display at the show including OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) TV screens. As of now Sony is the only company who has marketed an OLED TV and their 11inch model has yet to be contended with. In my opinion this years CES will be an amazing show with plenty of new technology and great gadgets for the gadget geeks inside us. For more information feel free to click the link below.
